Introduction

Full disclosure I am neither vegan or gluten free. In fact I eat just about anything and work in the beer industry. I am however engaged to a gluten free vegan and now that we live together we share almost all of our meals. This blog idea however pre-dates our relationship so I'll give you a quick story about how it came about.

Before I met my current partner I dated a woman who was also vegan. She insisted on only going to vegan restaurants and made it know she did not like seeing people eat meat (that unfortunately meant me). After a few too many unsatisfying kale salads and portobello burgers I decided I would just pack my own protein supply everywhere I went...just incase. I would sneak a few slices of jerky before I picked her up and have the little protein boost to get me through the next meal.

Now that you know the name here is the reason. If I've heard my fiancé say it once I've heard her say it a thousand times, "this really tastes like meat!" It doesn't taste like meat, it tastes like something but its not meat. So I figured I would put some recipe ideas out there, suggestions for products that do a good job at imitating the "real thing" and hopefully help you strike a balance with whichever vegan you might want to share a meal with.

Most of the recipes will probably be links, some might be interpretations of things we've made but tweaked but I'll alway give you the original incase you want to try your own adjustments.

Hope you find the information helpful and don't forget to restock your glove box jerky.
